Dry Bread Road is Rick Newsome, vocals and mandolin, and Bette
Newsome vocals and guitar.

The name,
Dry Bread Road, is borrowed from the name of  a road that
runs from Emporia, Va., through western Greensville county, Va. to
central Brunswick county, Va., approximately 25 miles, where it becomes
Broadnax road.  According to legend,
Dry Bread Road got its name at the
end of the Revolutionary War when British troops were moving through
the county and , as was common practice for both sides , the troops would
confiscate rations from the locals.  Having heard that the British troops
were coming, the folks along the route hid everything and feigned that they
only had dry bread.  Troops came to refer to the route as the
Dry Bread
Road
, because that was pretty much all they were able to take from the
residents.

Rick Newsome was raised on the
Dry Bread Road and on a side road off
the
DBR, known as Allentown road (aka Sugar Pig hill).  Bette Newsome
is from a little further west,Charlotte County, from the small town of
Drakes Branch.
